Bwin.party Strikes Poker Deal in California

It’s no secret that most major online gambling companies are setting their sights on the American market as many believe the US government is close to changing its ban regarding internet-based gambling. Bwin.party has recently joined the pack by sticking a deal with a casino operator in northern California.

The Sacramento based United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC) currently operates a casino called the Thunder Valley Casino Resort. The agreement between bwin.party and the UAIC is for 10 years from the date that internet betting becomes legal and states that bwin.party will supply the software technology for online poker services while the UAIC applies for the license. Under the proposed California legislation, UAIC would be a likely candidate to receive a license since they are already a federally recognized Indian tribe already running a casino.

Both sides see the potential success of internet poker in California. UAIC Tribal Chairman David Keyser said: “Having met with representatives from a number of different online gaming companies, bwin.party was our first choice as partner. With its unrivalled expertise in online poker, proven technology and player loyalty we are confident of being able to maximize the revenue opportunity from a regulated online poker market in California…” The Co-CEOs of bwin.party have said: “Combining our own significant assets and resources with those of UAIC will create a strong partnership that is well-placed to seize the opportunities that will arise if appropriate online poker legislation is enacted…”

In the end of February, two California Senators introduced additional legislation called The Internet Gambling Consumer Protection and Public-Private Partnership Act of 2012. This act would regulate licensing and tax internet poker operators 10% of the gross gaming revenues.
